The Ferring Research Institute was established in San Diego, California in 1996 as the company’s center of excellence for peptide research. More than 70 people work at its state-of-the-art research facility located in the heart of the Southern California biopharmaceutical community.
The candidate will work within the Molecular Design department at FRI, and contribute to the design, synthesis and characterization of novel peptides as part of multi-disciplinary drug discovery teams in search of next-generation therapeutics. They will be expected to work alongside peptide, small molecule and protein chemists within Molecular Design, and seamlessly collaborate with colleagues across other departments within project teams, in a fast-paced environment. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the next generation of novel Ferring products.
Synthesis, purification and analytical characterization of peptides, small proteins and chemically-modified analogs using state-of-the-art synthesis and purification techniques
o Design and execution of stability and solubility protocols in the characterization of biophysical properties of peptides
o Analysis and interpretation of peptidic structure-activity and structure-property relationships, toward the design of subsequent analogs
o General support of lab equipment, operations and research within Molecular Design
o Presentation of their work at periodic departmental and project team meetings
BS/MS degree in organic chemistry or related discipline with 5 - 10 years of experience in the synthesis, purification and characterization of peptides, ideally in a drug discovery setting
o Proficient in molecular purification and analysis with hands-on experience with RP-HPLC and LC/MS
o Preferred: experience with assessment of peptide biophysical properties such as solubility and aggregation
o A self-starter with strong communication, organizational and analytical skills, and a “team-first” spirit
o Ability to blend into the Ferring culture and embrace the Ferring philosophy.
