Research Scientist - Solid State

Small Molecule Design and Development (SMDD) is comprised of diverse groups that design and execute the development of all CMC aspects of small molecules and non-parenteral peptides from pre-clinical phases through commercialization for drug substances and drug products. With a goal of enabling Next Generation Research and Development, we seek to develop and explore new technical solutions across our portfolio.
This position will focus on the integration of early clinical and commercialization activities. Specifically, those regarding solid-state characterization and form selection in support of pre-clinical studies, clinical studies, drug substance and product manufacturing, drug product design, and global regulatory submission support.

Responsibilities: Candidates must leverage a strong background in solid-state sciences to fulfill responsibilities in drug product development which include:
Integrating fundamental solid-state and solid-form screening knowledge with dosage form, drug substance, and drug product development.
Partnering with and influencing groups at the discovery/development/ clinical interface to solve complex technical problems and to identify and implement solid-form screening and characterization that maximize benefit to our patients and value to Lilly.
Demonstrating exceptional learning agility to apply solid-state principles to delivery of new therapeutic modalities such as oral peptides and oligonucleotides.
Embracing diverse thoughts, backgrounds, and experiences to deliver innovative pharmaceutics solutions that will allow the company to realize its vision of Next Generation Research.
Influencing and engaging the external scientific community to foster collaborations for new drug delivery initiatives and to advance Lilly’s internal portfolio.
Basic Qualifications
Ph.D. in a physical science (e.g. physical chemistry), pharmaceutics, or related field
Minimum 1 year of experience working in pharmaceutical solid-state
Additional Skills/Preferences
Passionate about improving technological solutions using new technologies
Advanced understanding of pharmaceutical material science and its impact on drug product performance and manufacturing.
Advanced understanding of solid form screening and instrumentation used in characterization of pharmaceutical solids.
Basic understanding of regulatory aspects pertaining to development and clinical testing of drug products.
