Award Nomination Process

The Bruce Merrifield Award for outstanding lifetime accomplishment in peptide research, recognizes an individual who exhibits the highest level of scientific creativity.

The Vincent du Vigneaud Awards for outstanding achievement in peptide research are intended to recognize two individuals for scientific excellence at mid-career.

2019 Murray Goodman Award – Call for Nominations

The 2019 Murray Goodman Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated career-long research excellence in the field of peptide science. In addition, the selected individual should have been responsible for significant mentorship and training of students, post-doctoral fellows, and/or other co-workers. The Awards Committee may also consider any important contributions to the peptide science community made by the candidate, for example through leadership in the American Peptide Society and/or its journals.

The 2019 Goodman Award will be presented at the 26th American Peptide Symposium in Monterey, California, in June 2019. The awardee must be able to attend the American Peptide Symposium in June 2019.

Nominations for the Goodman Award should include the following items, assembled into a single PDF file:

  1. A letter of nomination from the primary nominator, 1,000 word limit.
  2. A supporting letter from an established scholar, 500 word limit.
  3. A supporting letter from a former student, post-doctoral associate or other co-worker of the nominee, 500 word limit.
  4. The nominee's Curriculum Vitae and list of publications.

Nominating documents should be submitted by December 15, 2018. Previous nominations for the 2017 Goodman Award will be reviewed for a second time, but it is preferred that these nominations be updated. Individuals contemplating a nomination are encouraged to contact the Awards Committee Chair with questions.

2019 Makineni Lectureship – Call for Nominations

Endowed by PolyPeptide Laboratories and Murray and Zelda Goodman, 2003

The 2019 Makineni Lectureship recognizes an individual who has made a recent, within 2 years of the nomination deadline, contribution of unusual merit to research in the field of peptide science and who is recognized as an accomplished speaker. This award is intended to recognize original and singular discoveries rather than cumulative or lifetime contributions.

The 2019 Makineni Lecture will be delivered at the 26th American Peptide Symposium in Monterey California, in June 2019. The awardee must be able to attend the American Peptide Symposium in June 2019.

Nominations for the Makineni Lectureship should include the following items, assembled into a single PDF file:

  1. A letter of nomination describing the candidate's outstanding contribution from the past two years, 1,000 word limit; self-nominations are welcome.
  2. A copy of the publication(s) describing the outstanding contribution.

Nominating documents should be submitted by December 15, 2018. Individuals contemplating a nomination are encouraged to contact the Awards Committee Chair with questions.

All the awards are presented at the 2019 American Peptide Symposium, and the awardees must be able to attend. A call for nominations will be made during the fall of 2019, and no nominations can be taken before that time. The Nominations from the previous award cycle will be reviewed for a second time, but it is preferred that these nominations be updated and resubmitted. Details about the required submission materials will be given in the call for nominations announcement.
